Here at HighStreet, we are suckers for a singer with soul. Add some electronic grooves and we are really hooked. Originally more of a DJ, Jamie Lidell has morphed into a modern voice that could surely be placed alongside other greats of his new found genre. His new album Compass, was co-written with Beck and many songs show the Beck touch. The dark and haunting “Coma Chameleon” has the Beck signature all over it. Somewhere along the way however, Beck dropped out of the picture but no harm was done. Compass is an excellent album. Catch Jamie somewhere this fall as he has assembled an excellent live band. We found Jamie on NPR’s World Cafe and we are so glad we took the time to listen. Give Mr. Lidell a chance and you will be glad you found him too.
